Beaufort County North Carolina
Beaufort County, located in northeastern North Carolina on the Pamlico River, is one of North Carolina’s 100 Counties and was established in 1712 with the village of Bath as its County Seat. Currently, Washington, NC serves as its county seat, where the county and its people are governed by a county commissioner form of government with an appointed county manager.

Beaufort County’s government is the legitimate “agent of the state,” whereby its governing body of seven county commissioners administer the duties of providing services, including but not limited to, such as: the court system, all county records, tax collection for the county and all its municipalities, mapping, emergency management, environmental health, building and subdivision permits, economic development, agriculture planning and subsidy, county 911, public safety and law enforcement (sheriff’s department), county jail, fire and rescue, public health (Health Department), the Beaufort County Hospital, Department of Social Services (Welfare), the Beaufort County Community College and all other public education.
